Eyeliner 101 (know what works best for you) PT1

Can't create a fluid line? Eyeliner doesn't last all day? Smudges and creases easily? Not very pigmented?

The fact that you're wearing gel or liquid eyeliner alone, with a brush or felt tip can affect your final look. Here's a guide to make sure you're wearing the right type of eyeliner. So first let's determine which eyeliner type suits your characteristics the best.

1.Heavy-handed
If you have a "heavy hand", which means, you're not very keen when it comes to drawing and you often can't control the strength you apply to your fingers, you should use either a felt-tip liquid eyeliner or a pencil liner. They're both beginner-friendly simply because it's easier to handle a pen/pencil than a brush. The felt-tip is harder than the brush so it creates resistance when you apply pressure helping you draw that slick fluid line (on the other hand it's slightly less precise than a brush and it's harder to control the amount of product). The pencil liner is the most popular, it's equally portable and easy to use, depending on how you sharpen it, it can create fine to thick lines, however, it's prone to smudging throughout the day so look for a waterproof formula.

2.light steady hand
If you have a "light hand" you can pretty much pull off any kind of eyeliner if you have the time and dedication. (But let's assume your skills aren't quite there yet) Use a brush-tip liquid eyeliner, it's portable, fairly pigmented, precise and you can easily control the amount of product and thickness of the line, however, beware of chalky formulas. There are many low-quality liquid eyeliners in the market with poor pigment which tend to dry into a hard/chalky consistency. Also you need to have a steady hand for this since the brush is usually very flexible.

3.Perfectionist
If you're a perfectionist and don't mind waking up early in the morning to get that perfect look you should definitely try gel eyeliner. It's most makeup artists' favorite since it is very pigmented, long lasting and doesn't smudge, also you can sanitize the brush since it comes separately. The only downsides are portability and application since it needs to be applied with a brush it's not as convenient as a one piece eyeliner that you can carry around in a purse therefore, not recommended for daily "last minute" application.
